Skilled in Subject Matter: Handbook of Dutch Language Teaching Methodology is a study book for (prospective) teachers of Dutch, compiled by specialists including university lecturers from Tilburg University and Radboud University. This handbook of Dutch language teaching methodology offers a balanced perspective between subject matter, such as literature studies and linguistics, and the skills dimension within education.
The book is structured into four parts. The first addresses social developments and relevant educational themes such as citizenship, reading motivation, and digital applications. The other three focus on communicative language proficiency, language education, and literature education. Each chapter includes reflective assignments and reading tips, supported by concrete practice-teaching assignments on an accompanying website.
With this handbook, teachers learn how to switch between content and skills, and they receive practical tools for meaningful lessons in the school subject Dutch. Skilled in Subject Matter is intended for students of first- and second-degree teacher training programs and is also valuable for active Dutch teachers.
More than twenty subject-matter experts have contributed, ensuring a broad, in-depth perspective on Dutch language teaching methodology.
