Description
Based on Thomas More’s incisive analysis of political abuses of his time, Utopia (1516) presents alternative political institutions and explores the possibilities and limits of political action. This edition includes the revised translation by George M. Logan of the original translation by Robert M. Adams from 1975, preserving accuracy and style.
The “Backgrounds” section contains key texts that influenced More’s thinking, including works by Plato and Amerigo Vespucci. “Criticism” provides an extensive overview of modern studies, with contributions from among others Frederic Seebohm, Karl Kautsky, Dominic Baker-Smith, and Eric Nelson. About the author
George M. Logan (Ph.D. Harvard) is Senior Fellow at Massey College, University of Toronto, and Emeritus Professor of English at Queen’s University. He edited, among other works, the Cambridge edition and the Norton Critical Edition of Utopia. Robert M. Adams was Emeritus Professor of English at UCLA and is known for his work on John Milton and modern criticism.
