Özcan Akyol (born 1984) is a writer and columnist who regularly appears on television programs. In this particular scene, Turis takes another sip of beer and carelessly places his bottle back on the table, causing a vibration that I feel against my back. When I touch my hair, I notice white foam sticking to my fingers—it's beer, and my shirt is also wet. "There's beer on me," I say. Turis responds with, "Ungrateful dog. I've been working since I was fourteen. And you're complaining about a few drops on your hair?" Life with a father like Turis is difficult. He smokes, drinks, and treats his wife and sons harshly. Physical violence is also part of his interactions. The fear of him is great within the family, until one day they've had enough. The brothers decide to seek happiness together in freedom, love, and a better life. But that proves easier said than done.
