The Book Tsubaki Stationery Store tells the story of Hatoko, who after years abroad returns to Kamakura to take over her late grandmother’s stationery store. In addition to running the shop, she also takes on the role of public writer, a skill she learned from a young age under her grandmother’s guidance. The story is set around the local community that forms around Hatoko and the store.
When secrets of her late grandmother come to light, Hatoko discovers that the profession of public writer involves more than just putting words on paper. The story follows the four seasons and Japanese rituals, and highlights the importance of community and the healing power of written text.
