About the author
David Pines is a research professor of physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is known for his pioneering work on many-body problems in condensed matter and nuclear physics. He also made important contributions to theoretical astrophysics. As editor of Perseus’ Frontiers in Physics and a former editor of Reviews of Modern Physics, he is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and other well-regarded scientific academies. Pines has received various awards, including the Eugene Feenberg Memorial Medal and the P.A.M. Dirac Silver Medal.
