For readers of Sheila Weller’s Girls Like Us there is now an inspiring and feminist story about friendship and music: The Liverbirds, the first all-female rock band from Great Britain.

About the book
In 1962, the then sixteen-year-old Mary McGlory decides after seeing The Beatles in The Cavern Club to become a musician herself and be the first woman to break through in the rock world. Together with Sylvia Saunders, Valerie Gell, and Pamela Birch, she forms The Liverbirds in 1963. These self-taught musicians break into the male world of beat music and perform with legendary bands like The Rolling Stones and The Kinks. Despite their success, the band breaks up in 1968 due to personal circumstances.

The Other Fab Four describes the lives of the band members and their struggles with family, addiction, and aging. Mary and Sylvia, the surviving members, tell their story of ambition, adversity, and camaraderie.
