This textbook analyzes the development of international relations through five important periods, from nineteenth-century colonialism to contemporary globalization. The authors examine how they relate to one another and, in doing so, pay attention to both Western-oriented perspectives and the often neglected voices from the global South. The book shows how these two worlds have evolved from virtual separation toward increasing integration. The authors argue that international relations must continue this process of globalization in order to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing, post-Western world order, with a broader distribution of power and influence.
