About the author
Oscar Wilde (1854–1900), born in Ireland, was an influential writer and the leading figure of aestheticism. In addition to his plays, he also wrote the famous novel The Picture of Dorian Gray. Wilde’s work is characterized by a sharp eye for social injustices and irony. After his conviction for homosexual acts, he spent his final years in exile.
