In The Fall of Gondolin two of the most powerful forces in the world meet each other: Morgoth, the embodiment of evil, and Ulmo, second in power after Manwë, leader of the gods. Although Morgoth remains unseen, he rules from his fortress Angband over an enormous host.
The city of Gondolin lies at the heart of this conflict between the gods. Built by Noldorin Elves who fled from Valinor, the land of the gods, to Middle-earth, this hidden city remains a symbol of hope and conflict. Turgon, king of Gondolin, is Morgoth's formidable enemy, who tries in vain to find the city. The war among the gods and the fall of Gondolin illustrate the complex relationships between the powers and their influence on Middle-earth.
