About the author
HLA Hart was Professor of Jurisprudence and Principal of Brasenose College, Oxford. His work is regarded as a classic study in legal philosophy. He died in 1992.
Leslie Green is Professor of the Philosophy of Law and Fellow of Balliol College, Oxford. He wrote, among other things The Authority of the State and is co-editor of Oxford Studies in the Philosophy of Law.
Joseph Raz is Professor of the Philosophy of Law at Oxford and Columbia University, and a prominent thinker in the field, with various publications on authority and law.
