More and more students and pupils speak, in addition to Dutch, other languages such as French, Spanish or NT2, at various levels (A1–C2). At school and beyond, they come into daily contact with different languages and cultures. This book helps teachers and teams to deal inclusively with this linguistic diversity by placing language-aware teaching at the center. This approach recognizes and utilizes the multilingualism of young people as a valuable source for learning and development.
The book contains contributions from various authors and is suitable for secondary education and vocational education. It is structured into three parts with a total of nineteen chapters:
- Part 1: The multilingual pupil – insight into multilingual repertoires and the role of languages in the lives of pupils, relevant for professionals.
- Part 2: The multilingual classroom – approaches for language-aware teaching within different subjects and learning contexts.
- Part 3: The multilingual school – application of language-aware teaching at the school level.
