The "New Practical Chinese Reader 5" textbook is part of a bilingual Chinese learning method, primarily aimed at English speakers. All explanations and translations are available in English.
This method consists of six sections with a total of seventy lessons and is designed for three years of instruction at beginner to intermediate levels. It is designed according to the new NOTCFL guidelines and in consultation with the HSK guidelines. The goal is to help students communicate in Chinese through knowledge of language structure, usage, and cultural understanding, combined with training in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
"New Practical Chinese Reader 5" has the following features to make studying Chinese easier and more interesting:
Students immerse themselves in the cultural context of Chinese society alongside other international students like Ding Libo, Lin Na, and Ma Dawei. Through engaging experiences, students learn not only about authentic Chinese language but also about Chinese culture.
- Emphasis is placed on functional language use; from the very beginning of the teaching method, students learn to use Chinese actively.
- Significant attention is paid to pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and discourse. Gradually increasing difficulty is achieved through repetition within four major learning cycles that help students understand language structure.
- An innovative method for teaching Chinese characters helps students learn to read and write them.
- The teaching method is aimed at combined training of the four basic skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
- It offers a lot of flexibility and is suitable for users with different backgrounds and goals.
- Extensive practice materials are available for use in and outside the classroom.
Each volume includes a student workbook and an instructor's manual, along with audiocassettes and CD-ROMs. Texts are available in traditional characters.
