Storyline

In 1959, as the civil rights struggle rages, Sarah begins her first day of school as one of the first Black students at the previously all-white Jefferson High School. No one wants Sarah there, including the governor, the teachers, and certainly not the students. One of them is Linda, the daughter of the town's most fervent segregationist. Even though Sarah and Linda are supposed to despise each other, their time together sparks unexpected feelings that blur the differences between them.
