About the author
Nigel Goldenfeld is a professor of physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He earned his PhD in 1982 from the University of Cambridge and afterward worked as a postdoc at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Goldenfeld is a member of the American Physical Society and has received numerous honors, including a fellowship from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. His research and teaching connect experimental and theoretical physics.
