The collection of graduated readers in Spanish as a foreign language, designed for young adults and adults aged 16 and up, offers classic literature at the A2 level. The story follows Lázaro, an orphan from humble origins. After his father's death, his mother places him in the service of a cruel blind man. This is the first of several masters who teach Lázaro how the world around him works and the cunning and resourcefulness needed to survive. He also serves under a clergyman who nearly starves him, and an impoverished nobleman who orders him to beg in the streets. Eventually, Lázaro becomes a town crier and marries one of the maids of the church's archpriest, after which everything changes.
