In this adventurous journey, Tintin travels to the heart of Africa to make a report. There, he faces dangerous situations as his enemies pursue him, determined to eliminate him. After his trip to Russia, described in "Tintin in the Land of the Soviets," Hergé was commissioned to send Tintin to the Congo, then a Belgian colony. This album offers an excellent insight into how Europeans viewed Africa and Africans at the time. The story began publication on June 5, 1930, in Le Petit Vingtième (See Hergé's biography). In 1946, Hergé redrew the entire album in color, reducing the original 110 pages to 62. In this new color version, he made numerous adjustments and somewhat softened the colonial tones. Nevertheless, "Tintin in the Congo" fell into disfavor from the 1950s onward and became difficult to obtain. This coincided with the turbulent period of decolonization, during which the album proved less than ideal. Remarkably, it was in a Zairean magazine that the story first resurfaced, bringing an end to the quarantine of "Tintin in Congo."
