KlasNL: Dutch for Speakers of Other Languages
Overview: KlasNL is an innovative course designed for non-native speakers who want to learn Dutch at a controlled pace. This first part focuses specifically on achieving language level A1. In twelve lessons, the program covers familiar everyday situations, such as grocery shopping, buying clothes, and thinking about the future. Students are presented with a wide variety of text types, such as emails, text messages, phone calls, and forms. This allows them to effectively communicate their own message.
Didactic Approach: The course is structured according to the ABCD model and emphasizes repetition and practical learning. Students are encouraged to complete assignments not only during class but also outside of class, making the theory directly applicable in everyday life. This approach aligns closely with the new integration policy.
Digital Support: On the accompanying website, students will find study guides, audio clips, and exercises focused on vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. The word lists are available in various translations, including Arabic, Tigrinya, English, Polish, Spanish, Farsi, Turkish, and Russian. Teachers can request additional materials such as manuals, study guides, and test sheets.
Course materials: KlasNL consists of a course book and a vocabulary trainer. The KlasNL vocabulary trainer contains exercises and lists that help expand productive vocabulary. Students learn 1000 of the most common and relevant words.
Target audience: This book is suitable for non-native speakers with both lower and middle education levels who wish to learn Dutch at a relaxed pace. The second volume, which will be published in mid-2021, will allow students to progress to language level A2.
