Falk broke through in 1956 with the Off-Broadway revival of The Iceman Cometh. He experienced his creative heyday in collaboration with director John Cassavetes, with films like A Woman Under the Influence, which launched the independent film movement.
He became especially known through television, as the unforgettable inspector Columbo in the seventies, a role with which he won four Emmy Awards.
