About the author
Charlotte Bronte (1816-1855) was the eldest of the Bronte sisters. Her novel Jane Eyre was published in 1847 and was followed by Shirley and Villette. She married Arthur Bell Nicholls in 1854 and died a year later during her pregnancy in Haworth, Yorkshire.
