This textbook by Martin J. Rhodes provides a clear and comprehensive introduction to particle technology within chemical engineering. It covers theory and practice, supported by examples and exercises, and is intended for students in chemical engineering and related programs.

Contents

Particle technology focuses on the handling and processing of particles and powders, with applications including chemistry, food, pharmaceuticals, minerals, and metallurgy. This textbook covers topics such as characterization, processing, particle formation, storage and transport, separation techniques, and safety related to dust explosions and health.

It has been revised and expanded with new chapters on slurry transport, aerosols, fine dust, agglomeration, and the health risks of fine powders.

  • Characterization (size distribution)
  • Processing (granulation, fluidization)
  • Particle formation (granulation, size reduction)
  • Storage and transport (silos, pneumatic transport, slurry flows)
  • Separation (filtration, sedimentation, cyclones)
  • Safety (fire and explosion hazards, health)
  • Properties engineering of particle systems (aerosols, respirable medicines, slurry rheology)
