Great Wall Chinese is a major project established by the China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (NOCFL). It serves as the core curriculum for the Confucius Institutes, the NOCFL Chinese learning centers established worldwide. The goal of Great Wall Chinese is to develop students' Chinese communication skills through various teaching methods, such as online multimedia courses and CD-ROMs. The program is suitable for both classroom instruction and independent study. Essentials in Communication is aimed at beginners in Chinese. The content covers personal information, communication for survival, daily life, learning and working, social activities, and so on, with an emphasis on fulfilling the basic needs for communication in daily life.
