Mary grows up in India. After losing her entire family and their household to cholera, she is sent to England to live with her uncle, a man she doesn't know and who is often absent. One of them is Dickon, the brother of her maid Martha, who becomes her friend. Together they also manage to lure Colin, her sick cousin, outside, leading to an optimistic ending to this classic story. In the following months, miraculous things happen. The seeds Dickon and Mary planted blossom. The flower stems dance in the wind, and roses grow luxuriantly around the tree trunks and branches.
