Sign languages are not universal; every deaf community has its own language. Variations also exist within Dutch Sign Language. Since 1999, intensive work has been done to standardize this language. Research into the development of sign language in the Netherlands over the past 150 years formed the basis for this comprehensive dictionary. Never before has such a comprehensive book of standardized signs for adults been published.
