Description of the novel
The third part in Saylor's Roma Sub Rosa-series, in which Gordianus the Finder is central. This historical novel is set around 63 BC in corrupt Rome. Gordianus, disappointed in the political situation, lives with his family in the countryside of Etruria. The quiet life is disrupted by the conflict between consul Cicero and senator Catilina, who are fighting for the consulate.
Core of the story
Cicero entrusts Gordianus to keep an eye on Catilina because of an alleged uprising. Despite his distrust of both politicians, Gordianus becomes involved in their power struggle when his daughter Diana finds a headless body in their barn.
