Principles and applications in petroleum play assessment

Basin Analysis Philip A. Allen is a reference work on basin analysis focused on the geodynamics of sedimentary basins. The book provides in-depth insight into the principles and applications of basin analysis for petroleum plays and sedimentary processes. This third edition combines theory and practical examples for a quantitative approach to geological processes.

Contents

The book covers the thermo-mechanical properties of the lithosphere, mantle dynamics, and sediment transport. It then follows with an analysis of basin formation, sediment fill, and thermal history, with a specific focus on application in petroleum play assessment, including unconventional hydrocarbon plays. Extensive appendices provide mathematical foundations and practical exercises.

This edition has been updated, fully in color and in a larger format, and serves as a rigorous yet accessible guide for problem solving within this integrative geoscientific discipline.
