The concept of citizenship has played a crucial role for centuries in the relationship between citizens and the state, as well as between citizens themselves. Connectedness arises in everyday cultural practices and conversations.
Research and Focus
This research approaches cultural citizenship from the perspective of people themselves, not from institutions. The focus is on everyday cultural citizenship formation, supported by Cultural Entrepreneurial Professionals. The professional competencies of these professionals are investigated through three case studies.
Target Group
The case studies focus on three generations of Dutch people with a Turkish or Moroccan background. Within the third generation, a new urban elite emerges with a pluralistic cultural habitus.

Sharog Heshmat Manesh is a cultural sociologist, teacher, and researcher at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. He publishes on the societal position of social groups with a migration background.
