About the author

C.J. Foot was a Junior Research Fellow at Jesus College, Oxford, and received various fellowships, including the Lindemann Trust Fellowship and the Royal Society University Research Fellowship. Since 1991, he has been a university lecturer and since 2002, a professor. He was awarded the National Physical Laboratory Metrology Award in 1990.
