Bud Day received all available combat medals during his military career. He escaped death no less than seven times and was imprisoned for 67 months in the infamous Hanoi Hilton, alongside John McCain. Despite severe torture, he remained unyielding and became a symbol for prisoners of war worldwide.
Life After Service
After his return, and missing a promotion to Brigadier General, Day retired. Years later, however, he began a new battle, this time against his own country. He received support from hundreds of thousands of veterans who felt betrayed. This episode made Bud Day an even greater legend.
