In "Persépolis," Marjane Satrapi recalls her childhood in Iran, within an intellectual and progressive family. Born in 1969, Marjane dreams of becoming a prophetess and gradually discovers her class consciousness while reading "Dialectical Materialism" in comic form. At the same time, she recounts the history of her country, the rise of Islamists, and the moment when wearing the headscarf became mandatory. This autobiographical comic is by turns funny, moving, and serious.
