He consults the stars about the fate of his son, Segismundo, who has just been born. The astrological prediction is grim: the son will humiliate his father and oppress the people. To prevent this, Basilio locks his son in a tower, far from society. One day, Basilio decides to bring his son to the palace, where Segismundo behaves exactly as the prophecy stated. He is locked up again, but the people eventually free him. Segismundo returns to the court to take his rightful place on the throne.
