Ragazza Madre Olì left her eight-year-old son, Anania, with his wealthy father and his wife, hoping to offer him a better future. Anania grew up in Nuoro, in his father's house, attended school there, and eventually became engaged to a wealthy young woman. He then moved to Rome to study at the university. Although the memory of his mother remains vivid, the shame of his extramarital relationship torments him more. This shame threatens to undermine his bourgeois ambitions, given their inappropriateness within society. However, no physical or social distance can soothe his inner turmoil. Returning to Sardinia, Anania discovers that his mother is still alive. He decides to take her with him, aiming to defy the unwritten rules of a misogynistic community, which leads to an unexpected outcome. The book, selected and introduced by Michela Murgia, marks the beginning of a publishing project dedicated to Grazia Deledda.
