Hidden within the archives of the vast Ministry of Truth, Winston Smith skillfully rewrites the past to suit the Party's needs. Yet, he inwardly resists the harsh, totalitarian world in which he lives; a world that demands absolute obedience and controls him through the all-seeing telescreens and the watchful eye of Big Brother, the Party's symbolic head. In his yearning for truth and freedom, he begins a secret love affair with a colleague, Julia, but soon discovers that the true price of freedom is treason.
