NT2 stands for Nederlands als tweede taal (Dutch as a second language). The term is used for people who want to learn Dutch when it is not their native language. This can include newcomers, migrant workers, international students and other non-native speakers living or working in the Netherlands.
Who is NT2 for?
NT2 is for anyone who wants to master Dutch at a level suited to everyday life, work or study. This includes adults who want to integrate, students who need Dutch for their course, and people who work with Dutch-speaking customers.
How does the NT2 system work?
Most NT2 learning materials align with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The CEFR uses levels A1 to C2 and also includes Pre-A1 as a preparatory descriptor. Some learning materials use the designation A0 for absolute beginners. Well-known courses such as Taalcompleet, Nederlands in gang and De finale follow this approach.
