# Cambridge heeft een nieuwe methode Engels

Speciaal voor het Voortgezet onderwijs is er nu **Shining Lights** de nieuwe, innovatieve leerlijn Engels (British English) van Cambridge University Press & Assessment, ontwikkeld voor leerlingen van **ERK A1 tot en met C2**. De methode begeleidt leerlingen stap voor stap bij het ontwikkelen van taalvaardigheid, communicatieve kracht, kritisch denken en _exam readiness_. Het leertraject bereidt optimaal voor op zowel de **Nederlandse eindexamens Engels** als internationale Cambridge-examens.

Met **Shining Lights** werken leerlingen aan alle essentiële vaardigheden van de 21e eeuw: communiceren, samenwerken, kritisch en creatief denken, en mentale veerkracht. De methode stimuleert nieuwsgierigheid, zelfstandigheid en een actieve leerhouding — waardoor leerlingen niet alleen beter presteren, maar ook sterker in hun schoenen staan, in de klas én in hun toekomst.

Elk niveau biedt een volledige leer- en toetsreis met geïntegreerde examenvormen, formatieve evaluaties en digitale ondersteuning via _Cambridge One_. Zo bouwen leerlingen met vertrouwen hun taalvaardigheid op van **A1** tot **C2**, ondersteund door de kwaliteit en expertise van [Cambridge](/en/collections/cambridge-up "Cambridge up").

Integrated Learning and Assessment

Assessment and learning work together in _Shining Lights_ to help teachers and students get the most out of every moment of learning. There are many different types of assessment – peer assessment, self-assessment, teacher assessment, Test & Train Mini, Personalised Learning, exam tasks and tips, unit check-ins and the Test Generator.

Personalised Learning (Reading and Listening) is included in every level except Starter, and teachers have full support to coordinate and facilitate each student’s learning journey.

Problem-based learning

Students work together to find solutions for open-ended problems. This builds collaboration skills and fosters both critical and creative thinking. Optional challenges are highlighted throughout the course, with higher levels focused on sustainability and real-world impact.

The approach to oracy in _Shining Lights_, developed with the _Oracy Cambridge Centre_ at the University of Cambridge, ensures learners master both the art and science of spoken communication.

Cambridge Life Competencies Framework

The _Cambridge Life Competencies Framework_ unlocks student potential and empowers them to thrive in society. In _Shining Lights_, it is integrated into every unit, developing critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and learning skills.

Competencies are clearly highlighted, helping teachers nurture essential skills in every lesson. The **Cambridge Employability Skills Framework** is used in levels C1 and C1+ to prepare students for the workplace and future career success.

Exam Preparation

Cambridge exam preparation materials draw on the expertise of writers, teachers, assessors, and exam experts. Every exam task in _Shining Lights_ reflects the real experience of Cambridge test-takers.

Each CEFR level includes a full practice test and exam practice tasks throughout the Student’s Book and Workbook. The first level in each pair (A1, B1, B2, C1) offers abridged practice tasks, while the second level includes the full range of complete exam tasks – covering each task type twice across the level.

A flexible digital offering on Cambridge One

_Shining Lights_ provides teachers and students with a full range of digital support on **Cambridge One**, including three fully interactive extra digital units in every level. These digital units are also available in _Presentation Plus_ in the Teacher’s Resource Bank, alongside other digital teaching tools.

STEAM

STEAM pages (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths) connect language learning with discovery. Students explore how innovation and creativity shape the world around them. STEAM investigations help students activate and build knowledge across subjects, while STEAM worksheets in the Teacher’s Resource Bank guide them through each stage.
